The Secret To Your Dream Wedding Day

In case you haven’t heard I got married last week on 23rd October! It was a fantastic day that couldn’t have gone any better, but we couldn’t have done it without the help of our fabulous suppliers. Good suppliers really are the secret to a perfect wedding day, taking all the responsibility out of your hands and doing an amazing job so you don’t have to! If you’re planning a wedding, I can’t recommend any of the suppliers that we used enough – they helped everything to go so smoothly and created our dream autumnal wedding day.

We visited a few venues before we found The Morritt, by chance the night I emailed to ask if we could come and visit they had an open day planned for the next day so we went along and completely fell in love with the place – it’s a gorgeous setting, not too far away, has plenty of space for guests during the day and room for all of them to stay over too!

Angela was our wedding co-ordinator and couldn’t have been more helpful. We were made to feel so welcome any time we wanted to drop by for a planning meeting and got plenty of chances to speak to Angela and the team and were even invited for a menu tasting to help us make one of the most important decisions of the day – the food!

Just to make sure it was alright (!) we ended up going to The Morritt several times for a Sunday Lunch which was incredible every time, so even if you’re not looking for a wedding venue we’d definitely recommend it as a spot to get a great Sunday dinner.

All the staff were so helpful on the wedding day too, we were never left wondering where to go or what to do and it was great to have so many encouraging faces helping to co-ordinate the whole event.

The rooms were all spot on too – really comfortable and warm. I had a great night’s sleep the night before and the night of the wedding and all of the guests I’ve spoken to said they loved their rooms too!

One of the best parts of our wedding package at The Morritt was that it included most of our key suppliers including Muscari Floristry meaning we didn’t have to shop around! After meeting with Denise we knew we wouldn’t have chosen anyone else to do our wedding flowers, she was so friendly and had plenty of ideas and suggestions.

I only really knew the colour scheme of the flowers we wanted but Denise took us through the types of flowers, the style of the bouquets, center pieces and corsages until we’d agreed on the perfect flowers for the day.

Denise really went above and beyond for us, personally coming to the venue to arrange our flowers and deliver the bouquets and corsages despite having had her baby only ten days before our wedding!

It’s the little finishing touches that can really finish off the room, and Lisa Charles provided all of our table decorations, the LOVE letters and the hanging heart for the mantelpiece. The tables looked fantastic and the fireplace looked amazing all day and night with these extra touches.

Of course we don’t have our official photographs back to show you just yet! But Camera A were fantastic on the day, making sure that we got all the shots we’d agreed in a meeting before the big day and again went above and beyond to create some fantastic pictures including standing on the roof of the hotel to get the group shots!

We’re lucky enough to have Faith as a close friend, and have therefore enjoyed many of her cakes and bakes before we even got engaged! Faith made our engagement cake and we knew straight away we wanted her to bake our wedding cake too. She did an amazing job of creating a wedding cake from my very loose Pinterest based ideas that not only looked but tasted amazing.

She made a three tier wedding cake (victoria sponge with raspberry jam, chocolate, and salted caramel) covered in buttercream and edible flowers in autumn colours, and topped with two gingerbread men iced as a bride and groom. One of the most frequent comments we’ve had about the wedding is how fabulous the cake looked and tasted and, having eaten plenty of it over the past week, we couldn’t agree more. I’d tried one day of shopping around for a wedding dress in a few outlets as I know a few friends who’d been really lucky there but I was left a bit disappointed with the selection of styles and the service. We booked an appointment at Dobinsons and couldn’t have had a better experience. They really listened to what type of dress I was after and brought some options that were really my style. They helped me in and out of a few dresses before we found the one; a unanimous decision from me, my mum, my gran, my maid of honour and the ladies in the shop!

They were great, they let me know as soon as my dress was in the shop and were happy to book in as many fittings and try-on’s as I liked – I even bought my veil and hair decoration from them too. As a family run business, it was great to get the advice of everyone there about how to put the dress on, lace it up and walk, sit, and even go for a wee in the dress! They couldn’t have done more for us and all people could tell me all day was how great the dress looked!

Before we booked Jo to do my makeup for the wedding day, Mum had a makeup lesson with Jo which she absolutely loved so she came very highly recommended! I had a makeup trial with Jo a week or so before the wedding and she was great – she picked exactly the right shade of foundation for my skin tone and created a gorgeous look for my eyes. She even mixed lipsticks to match the shade of the roses in my bouquet on the day and really listened to how I wanted my makeup to look. She was so calm on the day and having my makeup done on the morning was lovely and relaxing, plus she stayed until Camera A had taken a test shot to make sure my makeup looked right on camera. Aside from the fantastic job she did, it was little tips such as knowing to tone down my eyebrows so they wouldn’t stand out so much on the photographs that really added that extra touch that you can really only get with a professional – safe to say my makeup looked amazing on the day and I’d recommend Jo to anyone!

My hair is pretty difficult to deal with, it’s impossibly thick and unruly and if left untamed would be a huge frizzy mess most of the time. My hairdresser from Deep Hairdressing in Norton and one of the other very talented ladies from the salon agreed to come and do my hair, my mum’s hair, my gran’s hair, and my bridesmaids’ hair – which was quite the task since there were eight of us in total! I had a hair trial before the big day but since I didn’t have a set idea in mind for the bridesmaids’ hair we agreed that as long as they had an up-do, they could pick what they’d like on the day. Both Rachael and Bobby did an amazing job of everyone’s hair and the styles lasted all day and night despite lots of dancing!

All you can ask of your evening do is that everyone stays on the dance floor, and The Stuntmen kept the crowd there ’til the very end! We were biased because one of the best men is the lead singer, but all of our friends who hadn’t heard them before were completely blown away – I can’t count how many people have got in touch to say how amazing they were and there’s been chatter about wanting to hire them for more weddings! We got all the songs we requested, and they even let my Dad and our family friend Jim get up and do a couple of songs – at least they’re professional musicians and not just drunk relatives who fancied a bit of kareoke! Jamie also sang our first song “God Only Knows” (or Only God Knows as the DJ announced it) which was the best start to our evening do we could have asked for.

Which of course leaves us to thank all of our amazing guests, with a special thanks to the bridesmaids, best men and groomsmen who not only joined us on our special day but helped us to make getting married exactly a year after we got engaged an absolute breeze and a pleasure.

If you want any more info about any of the suppliers we used or any contact details just let me know!
